True story: It all starts with a call: Hello, I’m calling for an EMERGENCY! The team of engineers at the LG2 power plant need 20 laptops with dedicated graphics cards to make plans. We were supposed to receive them from your competitor but he never delivered. We need the cell phones within two days to get them on the Hydro-Québec plane. It’s urgent, we’re even ready to give you extra for OverNight shipping. Don’t let us down. —- The laptops in question are worth $4,000 each in 2015 and they are in stock in Toronto! I scream with joy because I will finally make a lucrative transaction! It’s a sale of over $80,000! 🆘 phew. But doubt settles in me. It might be a fraud! I then ask him his name. She gives me a name and I check on the Hydro-Québec website and she really exists!!! 🥳🥳🥳 I feel the $80,000 appearing more and more and I ask him for a certified check. She answers me: <<No problem. I understand that. We’ll bring you a certified check>> I then ask him to give me his email and return the signed submission. She then gives me her email and returns the signed submission. Everything looks great. I order the 20 cell phones and I’m about to leave the office and she calls me again. She asks me for proof that I ordered correctly. I then send her the screen print from my supplier… She was putting a lot of pressure… 🚩this piqued my curiosity. I started to doubt… I looked at his email and it was a weird domain. 🚩HYDR0—QUEBEC.COM 🚩I go to the site and it’s an Under Construction page. That’s when I realized I wasn’t going to sell 20 computers. I canceled the order and called the police who came to try to catch them. They never came to collect the 20 computers. But the police told me that they had another dealer in Terrebonne who gave cell phones in exchange for a fake check.🤯 Moral of the story… Be careful. When it’s too good to be true, when it’s too easy, when you’re put under maximum pressure, there’s a good chance you’re contemplating a mirage. The photo in the post is the waterfall in Lake Las Vegas. We immediately see that it’s not normal that in the desert there is a waterfall in a city where it rains a maximum of 10 days a year! If you are unsure about an email attachment, call the recipient to be sure. It takes 2 minutes. In addition, you will maintain the relationship with him. If you are asked to reset your password, ask your IT if this is normal. Thanks to Isabelle Pichette and Taillefer Paul-André for being by my side when this story happened.
